This qualitative research study documents the use of both art therapy and cognitive therapy combined as a therapeutic modality. Three separate group art therapy interventions are examined that focus on self-perception, personal transition and willingness to change. One individual case study, using both art therapy and cognitive therapy as a therapeutic modality, is also examined. The study took place over a period of six months in an intensive outpatient adult psychiatric hospital treatment program.Subjects--Topical Terms:

Results of the research will demonstrate that integrating art therapy and cognitive therapy in brief psychiatric treatment was effective in encouraging self-discovery and emotional growth in clients.
