The purpose of this project was to design a conference, identify potential funding sources, and write a grant to fund a grandparents raising grandchildren conference that will reduce the depression among African American grandparents who are primary caregiver to their grandchildren by providing them with the knowledge of existing community resources and aids. The grant writer used the knowledge about the African American grandparents' disadvantaged situation due to being parents to their grandchildren, obtained through extensive literature review, in designing a conference of ecological approach to intervention. The Baxter International Foundation was selected as the best funding source for this project through the use of Internet and FC Search grant database. A grant was then written to support a grandparents raising grandchildren conference at Torrance Memorial Hospital, Gerontology Outreach Program in Lomita, California.
