The findings of this study indicated that the emancipated youth encountered difficulties in some areas of life skills. Although findings showed that Michelle Travis Group Home and the Department of Children and Family Services assisted these emancipated youth in their process of emancipation, the majority of youth in this study did not receive support and guidance from their social worker. This study suggests that social workers are in need of further emancipation trainings in order to provide intensive after care services such as long-term counselling, mentoring, and follow-up life skills courses to emancipated youth.
