Organizational commitment has been the subject of several critical reviews in recent years (Meyer & Allen, 1991). It has been proven that relationships between organizations and their members are indeed changing. However, this fact does not underestimate the value of understanding how commitments are established and influence the nature of member-organization relationships. Commitment has a direct impact on behavior within the organization. One of the most current approaches to leadership and the focus of much research in the past decade is transformational leadership, which involves understanding the motives of followers, satisfying/fulfilling their needs and treating them as human beings. In contrast, transactional leadership represents an exchange relationship in which one receives rewards or feedback depending on his/her behavior. Therefore, this study explored the relationships between leadership behaviors (transformational and transactional) of African American Pastors and organizational commitment of their congregants, as operationalized by church involvement and church members' financial support, and assessed from two perspectives, that of pastors and that of congregants.
