The creative process across occupational domains: An interdisciplinary investigation.
Bundock, Bruce R.
The creative process across occupational domains: An interdisciplinary investigation.
- 103 p.
Adviser: Betty Wilde-Biasiny.
Thesis (M.A.L.S.)--State University of New York Empire State College, 2008.
As we train for the working world, our educational experience can be characterized as having a marked bias towards specialization. Problems that inevitably arise within one's area of expertise will require the capacity to be creative if effective solutions are to be found. This dissertation argues the case for interdisciplinary thinking as a means of looking at problems in novel ways. It explores the rise of the professions, ensuing segregation of thought and action, Howard Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences, specific domain intelligence, and an inquiry into the creative process through examination of exemplars such as the Wright Brothers.

It continues with an overview of various tools for enhancing creativity, communication styles, an exploration of modeling an ability for educational advancement, the need for an environment that teaches to both hemispheric regions of the brain, and the need to cross domains for resources that will extend the boundaries of one's own primary area of specialization.
