This research is an investigation of the use of the Internet as a networking tool for arts administrators in the State of Florida. It is qualitative in nature and comprised of a survey and case studies of two arts administrators from established, mid-sized non-profit arts organizations in the State of Florida. One case is an administrator from a multidisciplinary arts organization and the other is an administrator from a visual arts organization. I explored both subjects, in detail, in their natural context.

520 $a The literature review addresses the areas of administration, networking strategies, and the Internet in an attempt to understand the intrinsic relationship that may exist among them. Using Anderson's (2000) art criticism method, a qualitative analysis of data gathered through survey, interviews, and observations was developed.
520 $a The purpose of this study was not to find a generalizable method of networking for arts administrators. Rather, the intention was to explore new and different possibilities of how arts administrators could improve their networking practices in a cost-effective way. In short, I tried to gain an understanding of the advantages and constraints in using the Internet in relation to effective networking and financial efficacy in Florida and in two particular cases in Florida.
520 $a I discovered that arts administrators do not use the Internet to its fullest capacity for networking, not because of attitude, but primarily because they do not have the knowledge required. The two administrators interviewed used the Internet for networking for a few of their programs. However, they think it is not completely cost-effective for their organizations. I concluded that cost-effectiveness is the most important benefit obtained from using the Internet for networking. Yet, lack of time, work overload, and financial limitations are the main constraints keeping arts administrators from learning how to use the Internet for networking.
