This qualitative study was designed to identify the nutrition knowledge and attitudes of allied health students. A questionnaire developed by the researcher was distributed to 70 allied health students in the four disciplines of occupational therapy, physical therapy, physician assistant, and nursing. The questionnaires were administered in the students' classrooms and collected demographic data, level of nutrition knowledge, and nutrition education attitudes. Forty percent of the students scored less than 75% (score used to measure minimal nutrition knowledge adequacy) on the nutrition knowledge test. All disciplines except OT students had adequate nutrition knowledge. OT students were also the only discipline studied that did not have any nutrition education in their current curriculum. Most (90%) of the total students believed that they would know when to refer a patient to a Registered Dietitian and 74% of the students believed that their nutrition knowledge was sufficient enough to apply to the patient.
