Thesis (Ph.D.)--Capella University, 2008.
This qualitative study aimed to evaluate a job readiness training program from the perspective of program graduates in a rural community. The research also sought to gain insights from the program participants to determine if the skills obtained transferred to the workplace upon program completion. In doing so, the researcher was able to determine if self-efficacy was a factor in the transfer of training. Research studies reveal how self efficacy is such a key component with putting action toward a goal since people tend to attempt behaviors they believe they can accomplish, and avoid behaviors they believe they cannot accomplish. The participants engaged in self-reflection regarding the extent to which their training prepared them for successful outcomes in the workplace after the training. The research findings indicated that the job readiness training prepared the participants for work following their training. With a brief orientation, most participants were prepared to succeed in the workplace with the skills provided in the job readiness training program. Self efficacy was a significant factor in that the participants expressed confidence in their ability to use what they had learned to compete in the global 21st-century economy.
