Montgomery Community Action Agency (MCAA) is a predominately African American nonprofit organization that provides low-income heating and cooling, nutrition, and Head Start services in Montgomery, Alabama. MCAA continuously aims to gain and retain a competitive advantage. Nevertheless, MCAA faces challenges with its internal stakeholder management strategies and its members leaving the organization. It was unknown what influencers led to employee intent to leave at MCAA. It was also unknown what strategies could be developed for MCAA to reduce employee intent to leave at MCAA. The study's purpose was to investigate and explain what internal stakeholder management strategies could be implemented at MCAA to reduce internal stakeholders' intent to leave. Two research questions were used to understand what influencers led to employee intent to leave at MCAA, and what strategies could be developed to reduce employee intent to leave at MCAA. Questionnaires, semi-structured interviews, and a focus group were used as qualitative instruments to capture data from the research sample of 20. Based on the findings, influencers that led to internal stakeholder intent to leave MCAA were inconsistent leadership and employee communication and minimal employee recognition and incentives. The recommendations for practitioners at MCAA are to implement a Virtual Leadership Communication strategy to enhance communication between MCAA, and implement a Comprehensive Onboarding Program for all new hires to increase value and reduce intent to leave at MCAA. A multiple case study on diversity and the employee intent to leave is a recommendation for future research.
