This qualitative research project explores the perceptions and lived experiences that influence Black Women c-suite leaders' decisions to display authentic leadership behaviors in the c-suites of dominant culture organizations. Eighteen Black Women c-suite leaders working in U.S. dominant culture organizations participated in semi-structured interviews to answer three research questions posed in this qualitative research study: how do the perceptions and lived experiences of Black Women c-suite executives in U.S. dominant culture organizations factor into their decisions about leadership behaviors and strategies; how do Black Women c-suite executives in U.S. dominant culture organizations perceive the meaning of authentic leadership; and what factors influence Black Women c-suite executives to display authentic leadership behaviors in U.S. dominant culture organizations? The study relied upon interpretative phenomenological analysis to gain insight into the personal beliefs and experiences that influenced study participants' decisions to display authentic leadership behaviors. Through the voices of Black Women c-suite leaders, the study revealed that perceptions and lived experiences influence their leadership behaviors and strategies in c-suites of dominant culture organizations; Black Women c-suite leaders' perceptions of authentic leadership align with definitions identified in scholarly works, but their experiences impact the display of these behaviors; and organizational culture and psychological safety are factors influencing authentic leadership behaviors among Black Women c-suite leaders. This study explored strategies organizations may utilize to build c-suite leadership teams who value the identities and strengths of each of its members.
