This body of work reviews the literature and methodology for an arts-based research dissertation based on the following inquiry question: How might the use of storytelling about food and culture enhance awareness and acceptance of transculturalism and bring society closer to understanding and practicing cultural humility? The author has explored the possibility of understanding cultural humility through a transcultural discourse on food. Using arts-based research, fictional storytelling is explored as a method/medium to spread knowledge about cultures, preserve traditions, and to show the origins and similarities between cultures. The dissertation includes a work of fiction by the author that illustrates how transcultural links in food might encourage people to be more aware and accepting of the interconnectedness and commonalities within the human experience. The fictional components of this work employed the theories and ideologies discussed in the literature review in order to give a scholarly foundation to the artistic elements of the story. The author discusses the works of seminal thinkers, defined key terms, and addressed the validity of her chosen frameworks in transculturalism and cultural humility, and her chosen methodology of arts-based research.
