This work is a culmination of my graduate studies and my desire to design and implement an elective art program that champions CASEL's five Social and Emotional Learning Competencies through a Trauma-Informed lens while practicing Culturally Responsive Pedagogy. The arts and creative processes allow individuals an opportunity to work and think through emotions, feelings, and behaviors on a deeper, more personal level. The projects I have designed specifically deal with identity, intersectionality, behavior, emotions, and perceptions of self and others. Each lesson encourages youth to celebrate who they are while practicing Social and Emotional Intelligence. As it is designed, the program promotes positive intrapersonal reflection to build empathy and exercise prosocial behaviors.
