In our daily lives, our fields of vision are flooded with different forms of signage. This thesis reviews a foundation of semiotic theory and modern and contemporary art history to outline the phenomenon that the artwork in my thesis exhibition addresses. I also relate my approach to humor, my experiences as a laborer, and my analysis of surveillance culture, in order to contextualize and expose the intention of the work. I expand upon these issues by telling four personal anecdotes. Ultimately, the work describes a life as I experience it: meaning cannot be clarified from an ambiguous state; life is inherently absurd; control and power are delusions.
