This thesis will discuss the creation of my work, inspired by my exploration and understanding of my life's journey. I will think about the process and reasons for making this work, which deals with its influences, interests, and beliefs.Watching movies in my teens and early 20s was one of my big hobbies. Personally, movies were the medium that I could understand and approach more easily than art in terms of media. Among the many films I have seen over the years, I enjoyed those of director Krzysztof Kieslowski, which dealt with social and ethical issues at the time his films were made. My work often begins with photography, then expands into videos or sculptures, and is installed in a space. For this reason, I think I have come to treat the camera as a more familiar tool than a pencil or a brush. And this camera goes beyond just recording what I see; it allows me to create something and document it or expand my intentions. I also read psychology books with interest, which allowed me to observe artworks and movies from a psychological point of view.Additionally, I was interested in the films of directors such as Alfred Hitchcock, Stanley Kubrick, Wim Wenders, and David Linch, all of which dealt with man's inner world and psychology. The Interpretation of Dreams, Fetishism, Beyond the Pleasures Principle, and The Uncanny by Sigmund Freud, Notes on Schizoid Mechanisms by Melanie Klein, The Mirror Stage as Formative of the I Function in Psychoanalysis by Jacques Lacan, Memories, Dreams, Reflections, and Synchronicity by Carl Gustav Jung all aided in my understanding of the concepts of Freud, Jung, Klein, and Lacan's theories that underlie psychology, which dealt with race and history, including feminist authors like Bell Hooks (The Oppositional Gaze), Linda Williams (When the Woman Looks), and Stuart Hall (The Spectacle of the 'Other'). I also made it a point to read the writings of authors W.E.B Du Bois (Of Our Spiritual Strivings), and David Eng and Shinhee Han (Racial Melancholia, Racial Dissociation: On the Social and Psychic Lives of Asian Americans). While studying in Germany, I became interested in the works of artists such as Thomas Ruff, Andrei Gursky, and Gerhard Richter, who deal with formless and intangible materials. I also took an interest in the film and video material works of Douglas Gordon. These varied and complex forms of interest have shaped and sculpted the motives and worlds of my personal observations.
