Volumetric video, a new performance capture technology, is enabling independent filmmakers and virtual reality developers to tell stories and create emotions for both films and virtual reality experiences. However, the artistic vocabulary and instructional pipeline information remains uncodified, making it difficult to explore this new medium. In this thesis, a knowledge acquisition framework was constructed to bridge this gap. The results reveal new themes and ideas professionals are currently exploring and pipeline practices they are using. Furthermore, we present a map of possible workflows creators can navigate the medium with and a short volumetric VR experience to validate the data.
