This dissertation explores the emotive body of an artist as a philosophical medium for practice-based research in art. To illustrate the complexities of languaging human experiences of emotion, "feelosophy" is introduced as a speculative meta-concept that situates pre/post-verbal bodily sensations as a critical site for creative expression: poetically addressing the nature of feeling, the nature of being able to feel, and the emergent connections between them. The significance of this study is that it reimagines how research in art can be thought of when emotive knowledge production is situated as an integral part of the creative process. What does it mean for an artist to have a gut feeling? What does it mean to feel or not to feel? How are emotions culturally, socio-politically and technologically conditioned? What does it mean to have the agency to feel? What does it mean to change the way an artist feels? What does it mean to feel compassionate towards a subject and attune to its creative potential? Taking a methodological approach in remixology, foregrounding somatic sensing and its resonance as an embodied source material for intuition and improvisation, the form and structure of the dissertation heightens the awe-inspiring corporeal sensations and performativity of language. Referencing a wide range of interdisciplinary studies including neuroscience, psychology, cognitive science, trauma studies, gender studies, sociology, technology, performing and visual arts, "feelosophy" is shaped through the entanglement of theoretical and experiential realities where "emotion" as a research subject and "feeling" as a practice intersect and collapse.
