A gap the in literature regarding the perspectives of international students and their experiences in service learning, especially in the field of hospitality management, is addressed in this research study. In this basic qualitative study, the experiences of 12 international students from a variety of nations who participated in instructor-designed, service-learning projects were explored. The study was based on three research questions designed to elicit the participants' experiences with the inclusion of service learning in their classes, the required service-learning project, and whether value was found in this method of teaching and learning. One-to-one interviews were recorded, transcribed, analyzed, and member checks were conducted by the researcher to ensure the accuracy of data. The data revealed that the experiences are dependent on the course design, project expectations, and group participants. All participants found that inclusion of service learning has value that may be long lasting, especially since most were from an educational background where learning is all theory with no practical application. The findings of this study could benefit educators who are developing service-learning course projects in classes where there is a blend of international and domestic students.
