The overarching goal of this quantitative study was to explore factors that were associated with the prevalence in reading intervention programs. Specifically, the purpose of this study was to explore Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) among adults along with various demographics to determine factors connected with the involvement in a reading intervention program. This study utilized the Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE) questionnaire, which consisted of 10 questions measuring neglect and abuse during a person's childhood. Data from 440 participants indicated that individuals previously involved in a reading intervention program had significantly higher ACE scores than individuals who were not involved in a reading intervention program. Furthermore, it was found that male individuals as well as individuals from a low socioeconomic class were significantly more likely to have participated in a reading intervention program. The results of this study add to the literature investigating the relationship between ACE scores and academic success as well as how student demographics may influence the prevalence in reading intervention programs.
