There is a paucity of research on the cultural transmission process for hearing parents with Deaf children, particularly hearing Latinx parents with Deaf children in the United States. This study investigated how hearing Latinx mothers navigate their experiences with medical professionals in the midst of attempting Latinx cultural transmission. Findings demonstrated that medical professionals had a heavy influence on the mothers' perception of the early intervention process, during which these providers imposed their own White non-Latinx cultural values upon the families. The mothers were found to internalize these values throughout their journey, and thus hoped for their children to fit into societal expectations. Uncovering the experiences of hearing Latinx parents with Deaf children regarding how they navigate the cultural transmission process with medical professionals may provide a way for service providers and the community to better understand how to support this particular community. Collaboration with the Deaf community and Deaf professionals, as well as increasing cultural awareness and sensitivity among service providers are recommended.
