Currently, there is debate in evangelical circles about whether, and to what extent, Christian preachers should address social justice from the pulpit. This study will examine the case for addressing social justice in preaching and how this can be done biblically. Sermons of Rev. Dr. Elaine Flake, a female African Methodist Episcopal (AME) preacher, are analyzed to document the ways in which she aligns biblical principles with a call for justice in a variety of contemporary matters. This content analysis examines the frequency with which she mentions current events, the social justice themes covered, as well as the scriptural references she uses to support her discourse. It was found that Dr. Flake's work is a model for integration of social justice into biblical preaching. Analysis also highlighted the complexities of preaching to both the oppressed and the oppressor as they coexist within a congregation during the preaching moment.
