This study presents a practical process model for obtaining teacher input in identifying strengths and weaknesses of schools. The process is seen to improve vertical communication and team building in schools while also aiding in the professional development of administrators. The data for this study were collected from the teachers in the Lake Stevens (Washington) School District through the use of the Perception of Administration Survey given in March 1983 and March 1984. Following the first questionnaire the survey-feedback technique was used to give summary analyses to administrators and teachers. Based on the data analysis each administrator was then encouraged to collaboratively set goals and action plans with teachers to improve his/her respective school. It is concluded from this study that administrators who actively implement the model process improve scores in the follow-up survey. It is further concluded that administrators using this model experience improved school climate as a result of increasing opportunities for teacher input. This model provides a systematic and practical means of collecting data relative to administrative performance. At the same time the model presents an accurate view of a school's organizational health. The data from the model then become the springboards for setting goals and action plans to improve administrative performance and the state of the organization.Subjects--Topical Terms:
