This quantitative descriptive study examined the roles and responsibilities of school counselors working in international schools. The School Counselor Activity Rating Scale was used to compare the difference in the rating of recommended activities of actual performed and prefer(red) performed by international school counselors and the relationship between recommended activities performed and demographic characteristics. The demographic variables included counselor education/qualification field of study, the country where degree was earned, years of school counseling experience in international schools, and training in the International School Counselor Association's Counseling Model and/or the American School Counseling Association National Model. Bronfenbrenner's ecological systems theory and the International Model for School Counseling Programs served as the theoretical and conceptual frameworks to guide this study. Survey data were collected from 168 elementary, middle, and high school counselors working in international schools and who were members of the International School Counselor Association. Results of statistical analysis indicate that international school counselors prefer to spend more time than they actually do on the recommended activities in the School Counselor Activity Rating Scale subscales of counseling, consultation, curriculum and coordination and less time on subscale of other activities. The results of analysis of the demographic characteristics show that there is some statistical significance with recommended activities performed by international school counselors. Field of study, years of experience, and formal training in the counseling models all indicate a statistical significance with counseling related curriculum. Additionally, years of experience is statistically significant with the subscale of counseling and other activities. The country where degree is earned is not statistically significant.
