This research explores mankind's use of clay to record legacies of expressive vision. Since the dawn of mankind, humans have used clay to send messages far into the future. Turning to the ancient world, ceramic pieces are what remain to tell stories about their creators and the world that they left behind. Furthermore, it establishes clay as a suitable medium for archiving a message for the future. This research also explores mankind's inherent desire to leave legacies and the motivations to do so. Four different artists are introduced: two are deceased and two living, all whose work is greatly impacted by legacy. George Ohr, Pablo Picasso, Ehren Tool, and Roberto Lugo are all great examples of artists whose work was focused on in this research. Topics for each of these artists include general background, choice of medium, and the message they made. The culmination of this study is nine pieces that I created to communicate an important message to my sons and their children for the future when I am gone. My message to them is about the importance of faith and family in their lives.
