In this thesis, the researcher compares the deaccessioning practices of three museum directors in East Texas in order to examine how museums make ethical decisions when deaccessioning pieces from their collections. The researcher used the mixed methods of interviews, personal reflections, and field notes, and the paradigm of Critical Theory to examine how museums implement their policies. Upon examination of these interviews, it becomes clear that making ethical decisions about deaccessioning varies according to specific needs and policies. Through showing that each museum's circumstances vary, this research highlights the differences between how institutions' policies are carried out.
