This research explores the role of indigenous epistemology in decolonizing the post-colonial nations. I analyze Amitav Ghosh's The Hungry Tide, Jamaica Kincaid's A Small Place and Robin Wall Kimmerer's Braiding Sweetgrass to argue that these texts show indigenous epistemology as a form of resistance, and emphasize the insufficiency of Western enlightenment to solve the problems of previously colonized nations. To decolonize themselves, these indigenous peoples need alternative methodologies inspired from their own stories, myths and ways of knowing. Though Ghosh, Kincaid and Kimmerer belong to geographically disparate areas, their experiences of colonization are similar in many ways. These three authors deal with different stages and aspects of colonization and offer their own perspectives on indigenous methodologies to undo the colonial effects on the indigenous land, language, and knowledge.
