Currently, transgender and gender nonconforming students in K-12 schools often suffer immediate and long-term negative outcomes due to unsupportive and hostile environments in schools. School staff are integral members of the school environment for transgender and gender nonconforming students. Research has demonstrated that a supportive school staff is strongly correlated to a reduction in negative outcomes for trans youth. This paper proposes a district-level training for teachers/staff, administrators, and school counselors to gain the self-awareness, knowledge base, and urgency to become allies and supportive staff for their transgender and gender nonconforming students.
