The museum, as a modern concept developed in the West, has emerged as a global institution to preserve objects of historical, cultural, scientific and artistic significance. The aim of this research is to examine the prospects of museums as a method of political control and intervention in, and around China. China's variant on the a national museum is called the Palace Museum, and under Chinese supports, Palace Museums are expanding in East Asia, playing an important role in the political conversation among adjoining states and regions. To this end, the question is as follows: Within a country whose rights to autonomy are limited on many levels, to what extent is the museum, its collections and its curation altered to meet political needs? Moreover what are the connections between what the audience sees and what the museum is seeking to express in the first place? In this context, the relationship between China and controversial regions like Hong Kong and Taiwan emerges as crucial in the history of Chinese museums. By tracing back the birth and growth of the Palace Museum in Beijing, the National Palace Museum in Taipei and the newly established Hong Kong Palace Museum, we can begin to answer looming questions abut the service of the museum as a tool of foreign and domestic policy.. In contrast to the display of military power or other, typical propaganda techniques, through museums, governments find a milder approach towards addressing certain political needs or simply representing their authority and power. On this basis, the purported educational purpose of museum should be examined carefully, for clearly museums like the Palace Museum are not only about China's history, but every bit about its present as well.
