This study investigated whether spiritual learning impacts the lives of adult learners in martial arts educational programs. The impact of spirituality has been claimed as a meaningful connection; however, it is not currently known how spiritual learning impacts the lives and experiences of adult learners with these programs. Spiritual learning allows for a learner to transcend one's core or self, which leads to the development of a greater sense of self and others through relationships and community. Spiritual learning is also the process of deriving meaning, purpose, and direction in life, while upholding and acknowledging the value of the sacred. Adult learners aged 18-65 that participated in this study were selected from an East Coast college university that presently offers credit based martial arts educational programs. The findings of the study revealed that a variety of impacts involving spiritual learning, transformational learning, and critical thinking were present for the participating university, but also pointed out some limitations of its use. Limited accessibility and proper understanding of spiritual learning application in adult education were noted as drawbacks to the use of spiritual learning in martial arts educational programs. This study provides background knowledge of spiritual learning and a deeper understanding of how transformational learning can be utilized in higher education today.
