Thesis (M.S.)--Texas Woman's University, 2017.
In order to be successful in Elementary Statistics, basic mathematical skills are required. With the use of Linear Regression Analysis, we determine whether a student's level of success, measured by his or her final course grade, can be predicted by his or her prior mathematical knowledge. In an attempt to accurately gauge a student's understanding of basic mathematical knowledge and skills, a pre-test was constructed. Our investigation of the data compares simple linear regression and multiple regressions analysis in which a significant correlation has been found between the pre-test and the final course grade. The analysis shows that students who have a higher level of prior mathematics knowledge and skills before beginning their journey in Elementary Statistics will tend to be more successful in the course. In fact, a student's cumulative grade point average is the only variable in the analysis identified to have a stronger correlation to the student's final course grade.
