Thesis (Ph.D.)--University of Denver, 1994.
This study was designed to help make computer education popular in Taiwan. This researcher designed 26 television programs to research the effects of television teaching. The production, broadcasting, distribution and collection of survey materials, lasted about one year. The result show that television can be a powerful and effective tool for spreading computer literacy. In addition to general impressions, qualitative measurements were also made of the program using college freshmen. These promising results demonstrate how worthwhile it would be to make proposals to the government to sponsor programs of this sort in the future. There also needs to be other research on technology such as CAI and multimedia to improve on this method.Subjects--Topical Terms:

This study's main characteristics were: (1) "Watch TV, Learn Computers" was the first educational computer program to be broadcast on commercial television. (2) This researcher actually created the instrument from which to measure effects with. (3) The program reaches many more people than any class could ever hope to, making it worthwhile for the government to consider in its educational planning. (4) The overwhelming enthusiastic response of the viewers demonstrated the success of the project. (5) The final exam results of the two test groups demonstrated that television learning was just as effective as traditional teaching. It is a worthwhile method to pursue in Taiwan.
