This study examined the effects of student-to-student mentoring on the conduct and mathematics performance of middle school students. The study followed a quasi-experimental research design study for a period of one school year. Student discipline records of fifth grade students from the feeder schools prior to their transition into middle school were examined to identify those students who had a history of misconduct in school. These students comprised the intervention group in sixth grade and participated in the student-to-student mentoring program, Building Relationships and Making a Difference. The number of level II conduct reports received and the mathematics results from the Star 360 Assessment produced quantitative pre and post data. The data generated by the intervention group was compared to data gathered from a control group who did not participate in the student-to-student mentoring program. The study found statistically significant difference in the area of conduct. Results also showed the improvement in the conduct of students in the intervention group was statistically significant. The findings from this study substantiate the need for more time devoted to the implementation and evaluation of student-to-student mentoring programs.
