This qualitative phenomenological study involved conducting in-depth interviews with 20 Black entrepreneurs pursuing opportunities in the primetime television and feature film industry. The purpose of the qualitative phenomenological study was to understand the lived experiences and perceptions of Black entrepreneurs as television and film visual media company owners, producers, directors and actors pursuing advancement opportunities in Hollywood's primetime television and feature film industry. The problem is that Black business men and women in television and film have been marginalized, underrepresented, and not allowed equal access to network leadership opportunities. According to Kiuchi (2009), Blacks have historically been discriminated against in television and film and not granted leadership opportunities. The NVivo 10 software was used to code and analyze the data, and identify the following ten prevalent themes: 1) Hollywood access for growth, 2) Hollywood credentials a bonus, 3) skills leverage for sustainability, 4) smart in Hollywood for success, 5) Hollywood alliances as a requisite, 6) money mandatory for business, 7) fair practices influence access, 8) collaboration efforts for advancement, 9) Hollywood evolution for Blacks, 10) Black Hollywood ownership. An analysis of the data made it possible to determine that although the industry had evolved for Blacks, there are still barriers preventing equal access and advancement.
