Thesis (M.A.)--The University of the Arts, 2014.
This thesis proposes visual thinking methods as effective means of cultivating the well-developed creative ability needed in most workplaces today. In particular, methods more likely to serve an exploratory or holistic function were included in a workbook designed to impact and enrich organizational learning. The research undertook a close examination of generative traditions in art and design, which influenced the choice of projective exercises included in the workbook. An interdisciplinary theoretical synthesis was completed, in order to draw conclusions about the topic from three complimentary bodies of knowledge: the Studio Thinking Framework, Design Studies, and Organizational Learning. The research indicates a number of key benefits related to visual thinking methods that might be described as follows: Exploration, making visual artifacts can lead to new ideas; Comprehension, making visual artifacts can communicate ideas simply; Collaboration, visual artifacts externalize ideas so it is easier to share them with others.
