WHAT REMAINS? EPHEMERAL ART + THE VALUE OF DIRECT ENCOUNTERS proposes a plan for a highly participatory, temporary exhibition that uses contemporary art and immersive exhibition environments to engage visitors. The approach is primarily focused on audience needs and is not a traditional art exhibit. However, the art installations are catalysts for discussion; as visitors connect with the works, they access direct experiences with extraordinary spaces and ephemeral objects. Hoping to reach a wide range of visitor types within a general audience, the exhibition will provide many different types of viewing environments so that visitors are in control of their pacing and engagement. Section panels and object labels will be relocated in the exhibition thereby removing contextual information from the vicinity of the installations, giving people time to encounter the works. Visitors will become empowered participants through the opportunity to immediately respond to their surroundings and discover the validity of their personal interpretations. Visitors will leave with an increased awareness of their surroundings and new ways of seeing the world. By witnessing and responding to the exhibition, participants will contribute a unique happing that can never be replicated. When it's all over, you will have to ask yourself what remains with you?
