Thesis (Ph.D.)--Bellevue University, 2014.
The academic literature lacks consensus on the basic fundamental understanding of knowledge sharing. Various approaches have attempted to explain knowledge sharing---most of the literature uses theory of planned behavior and theory of reasoned action to explain knowledge sharing as behaviors. Theories using this approach only address knowledge-sharing events from a single person's point of view, and fail to take in to account that knowledge sharing is a dyadic process. Knowledge sharing is a complex construct that cannot be explained by a singular theory. This study examines the knowledge sharing phenomena through a qualitative approach. This grounded theory study answers the research question of what factors determine a high quality knowledge-sharing event. The data shows individuals use an ongoing constant assessment of multiple variables that are related to several theories of agent interaction. The examination of the knowledge-sharing phenomena generated new theory, which more aptly describes knowledge sharing as an event between two individuals. Agents involved in these events assess dyadic variables, structural ba, and social components.
