Harbert, Gregory Jon.
Art analysis through a neurological lens.

Thesis (M.A.)--California State University, Dominguez Hills, 2013.
The "neuro-art nexus" describes the relationship between humanity and art, and becomes evident when art is analyzed through a neurologic lens. This dynamic can be explored with the use of a "neuro-art analysis," as it provides new filters for analyzing artworks by borrowing from several scientific disciplines, including neurology and anthropology, with the quest of understanding the human connection to art. The benefits of utilizing a neuro-art analysis include building a broader language to describe an artwork, accomplished in part by investigating the human instinct to utilize and seek out patterns and symbols and the human predisposition to communicate through artworks. This allows for the analysis of a wide variety of artworks while emphasizing the role of emotions and the impact of art upon an individual. As human beings share the same biology, a neurological approach to art could be considered "universal" in its application.
