The national average for utilization of Employee Assistance Services is 18%. The utilization of these services by managers is at a rate of 2%. This low utilization rate is consistent over a number of prior years. Considering these low utilization figures, there appears to be a problem within the managerial population with regard to utilization of Employee Assistance services.

The results of the data collected showed that the managers were most reluctant to utilize Employee Assistant services for factors involving stigma tolerance interpersonal openness, and confidence in the mental health practitioner. The findings were significant enough to prompt further research in this area. The direction of that research might be directed to helping managers overcome their reticence regarding the inhibiting factors so that they could take advantage of the Employee Assistant Program services.
