Web-based courses have increased in number as one of the primary modes of distance education in undergraduate nursing programs in colleges and universities across the United States. This thesis examines the concept of nurse educators' perceptions of web-based instruction. A web-based survey of 10 nurse educators in the United States with experience teaching web-based courses served as the primary data source. Results of this study indicate nurse educators that educate via the Web spend significantly more time in preparing, planning, and implementing a Web course than in the traditional face-to-face classroom.

The subjects did perceive the teaching experience utilizing the Web to be successful and an effective form of instruction. Nurse educators strongly agreed that the Web could be used to deliver any type of core nursing course in an undergraduate curriculum. However, most of the subjects preferred traditional face-to-face education versus the web-based educational format. (Abstract shortened by UMI.)
