Naturalistic and direct treatment procedures were used to treat phonological errors in an alternating treatment design. The target sounds consisted of both stimulable and non-stimulable inventory constraints. Subjects were four preschool-age children with moderate to severe phonological impairments. The four children each received both treatment procedures, naturalistic and direct, one type of treatment for each of two target sounds. Gains in accuracy of the target sounds were measured in untrained generalization probe words and training words. Although both treatments were effective, there was not one treatment procedure that could be identified as being more effective for stimulable or non-stimulable sounds across the four children.Subjects--Topical Terms:
