The primary purpose of this study was to explore if various stakeholders, specifically principals and school board members, of a public school district perceive servant leadership traits in the superintendents in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. This study also examined how these traits affected the length of the superintendency, specifically the gold standard superintendency. A gold standard superintendent is operationally defined as a public school chief executive officer who has experienced twelve or more years in the same district.

The over-arching focus was on the patterns of behaviors and trends school superintendents established resulting in an increased length of tenure.
