The sample consisted of one-hundred and eleven parents in Wyoming, McDowell, Boone, Raleigh, Mingo, and Logan counties. Two sites were chosen within the six counties. Parents completed a nineteen-item questionnaire that measured their perceptions of childhood obesity and included demographic data.

Data was collected and statistical analysis was performed using the Pearson Correlation Coefficient. Findings revealed that there was no correlation found between a child having a high BMI and their parent's perception of their weight; suggesting that parents may not realize it when their child is overweight.
