Thesis (M.S.)--D'Youville College, 2002.
This study was designed to measure the general population's knowledge and use of selected herbal remedies. A self-administered survey was attached to each employee's paycheck of a local retail store. One hundred and fifty questionnaires were distributed, and 116 were returned resulting in a 77% response rate. The questionnaire measured herbal remedy knowledge and use. Data analysis determined if there was a relationship between gender, age, education level, and knowledge and use of herbal remedies. The results indicated that 60.4% of individuals correctly identified the herbal remedies in the survey. The most correctly identified were garlic, valerian, ephedra, and echinacea. Of the respondents, 53.4% reported using herbal remedies now or in the past. The highest reportedly used were gingko biloba, garlic, and echinacea. There were no significant relationships found between herbal knowledge and age, gender, or education level.
