Thesis (M.S.W.)--California State University, Long Beach, 2007.
This study used secondary data from the 2003 California Health Interview Survey (CHIS) database to examine the relationship between Latino children's health conditions, eating behaviors, and access to health care services. The sample consisted of 2,778 participants from the ages of 2-11. The results of the study showed that the children's gender has no affect on their access to health care services. Gender was found to have an affect on all the health conditions analyzed. Males experienced all health conditions at significantly higher levels than females. Gender differences were also found in the participants eating behaviors. Males consume more milk than females. In general, participants consume more unhealthy foods than healthy ones. Health conditions did affect eating behaviors. Those that use prescription medicines had no affect on their eating behaviors. Those with asthma consume less fruit than those without. In addition, children who display problems with emotion, development, and behavior needing treatment consumed significantly less fruit and milk than children who display no such problems. Lastly, participants in this study had average health conditions. Health condition variables had relatively small percentages of frequency.Subjects--Topical Terms:
