There is a reading epidemic in America. In the United States, the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) reports that in 2019, only 33% of high school seniors performed at or above the proficient level in reading. This means 67% of students did not have the interventions and support needed to reach reading proficiency. If a general education teacher is properly informed of interventions that can support students with their reading, their students' reading skills will increase and their academic success. The handbook in the appendix of this project was written to help general education teachers learn about the Small Group Guided Reading intervention program and how to implement it with fidelity in the intermediate grade-levels.
