Writing can be a problem for students, and graphic organizers are one way to help. They are visual and spatial displays designed to facilitate textual material. This study included pre and post writing assessments, a Likert Scale survey, and an open-ended questionnaire. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of graphic organizers in producing coherent thoughts and supporting details in writing. It is important that educators use surveys to identify areas of strengths and weaknesses in student performance. The results of this study have indicated that the use of graphic organizers is one strategy that can be used to improve student writing. The results of the pre and post writing assessments show improvement in using details in writing with the use of graphic organizers. The Likert Scale survey, along with the open-ended questions provide student feedback on the way in which graphic organizers assisted their ability to write. The use of graphic organizers can be a successful tool for students to ensure writing coherence and the use of supporting details.
