The purpose of this action research is to evaluate the integration of the Reading Plus Program in a New Jersey District Factor Group A High School. The three questions used to guide the study were: (1) To what extent does participation in the Reading Plus Program result in improved oral reading fluency for students with learning disabilities? (2) To what extent does participation in the Reading Plus Program result in increased comprehension for students with learning disabilities? (3) To what extent were factors identified that directly correlated to changes in benchmark scores over time when participating in the Reading Plus Program? The findings from this study indicated that the Reading Plus Program could lead to major improvements in reading proficiency but very little improvement in classroom participation. The researcher recommended that the students be provided more time in class to work on Reading Plus assignments, teachers be provided on-going professional development to ensure the Reading Plus Program is implemented with fidelity and consistency, a supplementary component be added to the reading Plus Program or replaced with one that includes teacher instruction, and the Reading Plus Program is supplemented to keep the students engaged and wanting to complete their reading tasks. It is the hope that with these recommendations, students with learning disabilities reading comprehension will improve.
