Thesis (Ed.D.)--Lamar University - Beaumont, 2017.
This phenomenological study explored the education-related experiences of successful professionals who were gifted and talented in the field of the creative, artistic or performing arts. The five research questions that lead this study were framed within the elements of Albert Bandura's Social Learning Theory. Ten successful professionals working in or retired from work in the creative, artistic, or the performing arts were examined. A purposeful, snowball sampling was utilized for selection. The participants for this study represented several regions within the United States including California, Louisiana, New York, and Texas. The phenomena of their educational experiences were examined based on environment, personal and behavioral aspects of the lived experiences of each subject and special training or college. Findings of the study emphasize the value of special relationships with family, mentorship, and other learned behaviors based on these factors. The aforementioned themes were found to be vital to the success of these professionals as they moved through their educational experiences in public schools.
