Thesis (M.S.)--University of Colorado at Denver, 2016.
The purpose of this research is to provide a foundation to show how music technology can help high school students become better musicians, and to create a current and nearly-exhaustive list of software and applications currently available for all major platforms, giving high school music teachers a resource to find programs appropriate for their students' needs. Current literature on the topic focuses on common and best practices for utilizing music technology in the classroom, but does not describe how the technology can help students improve in specific areas of musicality, nor give a comprehensive resource of all currently available software and apps for each musicianship skill. The threads examined throughout the literature are how technology can be used to help students with sense of time, sight-reading skills, general music theory, singing and playing in tune, improvisation, and composition. The culmination of this research will provide high school music teachers a comprehensive source from which to draw when looking for technology to help their students with personal musicianship skills, and strengthen their traditional programs in the process.
