The purpose of this study was to describe the amount and type (recreational, exercise, work, caregiving, yardwork) of physical activity (PA) performed by breast cancer survivors, awareness of the American Cancer Society (ACS) guidelines, and perceived risk of recurrence. A sample of 9I breast cancer survivors completed an online questionnaire about medical history, knowledge of ACS guidelines, perceived risk of breast cancer recurrence, and PA using the Yale Physical Activity Survey. Approximately half of participants had a family history (FH) of breast cancer. Nearly 40% of participants were unsure of these guidelines. Participants with a family history had a higher ACS Knowledge Score (5 points maximum) [FH, M (IQR) 4 (1,4); no FH, 0 (0,4), p=0.02]. Reported PA was comprised mostly of work-related activities [59 (33, 81) MET-hr/wk]. Women with higher risk perception had more recreational PA (11.9 (7.7, 22.9) MET-hr/wk) compared to those with lower risk (M (IQR) 4.4 (0.75, 12.0) MET-hr/wk, p=0.002). Survivors partake in activities limited to work and do not seem to incorporate exercise and recreation activities.
