The purpose of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of restaurant meals identified as healthy choices on the menu. Restaurant meals were selected from two restaurants, Rubio's Baja Grill and La Salsa. Two menu items were purchased from the restaurants at two different locations within the same chain at two points in time, and were sampled in duplicate. t -Tests were used to compare the mean experimental values to claimed values for fat, energy, and sodium for the entrees, and to compare nutritional content at different locations for the same restaurant. The fat, energy, and sodium levels were also compared to the FDA recommended Daily Values. Results showed that meals identified as healthy choices on restaurant menus at Rubio's and at La Salsa are fairly consistent and are in fact healthy choices. However, precautions for total energy should still be taken into consideration.
